Ten years of LNG from the US. Gasoport in Świnoujście a pillar of energy security of Poland

Over a decade ago to the terminal LNG of President Lech Kaczyński in Świnoujście wrapped the first supply of liquefied natural gas. Today this moment can be considered a symbolic beginning of a new stage in Polish energy policy – a stage based on diversification, transatlantic contracts and the construction of a regional gas hub.

The anniversary coincides with the decade of the launch of American LNG exports to Europe. During this time, cooperation between Poland and the United States in the area of gas supply went from the first contracts to a strategic partnership with a regional dimension.
Record 2025. LNG from the US dominates import
The year 2025 proved to be a breakthrough in terms of supply volume. The ORLEN Group received a total of 81 LNG cargo62 of which came from the United States. It is a clear signal that American gas has become one of the main pillars of Polish imports.
LNG supplies today account for more than half of total gas imports to Poland. This means a permanent change in the supply structure and independence from one supply direction, which was a key challenge for national energy system.
Visit of a US delegation to Świnoujście
On Saturday, the Świnoujście terminal was visited by representatives of the National Energy Dominance Council at the White House, US embassy in Warsaw, Ministry of Energy, ORLEN and Gaz-System. The delegation was chaired by Jarrod Agen, serving as Special Assistant President of the United States.

Together with Minister Wojciech Wrochna, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ORLEN S.A. Przemysław Ciechnik and Vice President of Operational Affairs Robert Soszyński, guests visited the LNG terminal and boarded the methane tanker Ignacy Jan Paderewskiwho delivered a cargo of gas from the USA to Poland. The unit belongs to eight methane ships of the ORLEN fleet.
The visit was not only symbolic. It was an opportunity to sum up existing cooperation and talks about further integration of gas markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
Poland-Ukraine and the growing role of the gas corridor
The importance of the Polish-Ukraine gas corridor has been growing in recent months. From April last year until the end of the current quarter, the volume of contracted deliveries sent by this route will reach 750 million m3 of gas.
It's not just a matter of trade. It is part of the construction of a regional energy security system, in which infrastructure in Świnoujście acts as an entry point for global LNG supplies.
FSRU in the Gulf of Gdańsk – another step
ORLEN has reserved 100% of the regazification power for the built FSRU terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk. This means preparing for further increases in the volume of LNG supplies in subsequent years and increasing the flexibility of the national gas system.
Access to the global liquefied natural gas market gives Poland not only security but also a real impact on the shape of the regional gas market. Within a decade, gasport in Swine it is no longer an infrastructure project – it has become one of the key tools of the state's energy policy.
