25th birthday of ORP Grom

On Tuesday, April 28, at the Battle Port in Gdynia, there were celebrations for the 20th anniversary of raising the flag on the ORP Grom rocket ship. According to the naval tradition, on this occasion on the unit, with the flag raised, a large flag gala was raised.

During the solemn appeal, in the presence of the Head of Training 3. Commander Albert Figat's fleet of ships and Commander Commander Gregory Mucha's Battleship Squadron, was read a special order from the commander of the ORP Grom. The ceremony was attended by the crew of the rocket ship.

ORP Grom is one of three missile units in the Navy. In 1999, he was one of the first two representatives of the Polish Armed Forces in the Natov exercises after Poland joined the structure of the North Atlantic Alliance. The ship participated in the largest five times a maritime project organised in the Baltic Sea under the Peace Partnership Programme – BALTOPS exercises.

He has also participated repeatedly in the exercises of light water impact forces and in comprehensive maritime exercises at national and international level. ORP Grom inherited his name from his war and post-war predecessors. The first ship of this name entered service in the Polish Navy in 1937 and became famous for participating in the Battle of Narvik. During the war, he was sunk by German aviation. The second – was inducted into service in 1957, forming part of the 7th Destroyer Division in Oxyvia. In 1973 he was withdrawn from service and sunk as part of a breakwater in Hel. Currently serving as a squadron of Battleships, the unit continues the traditions of its predecessors.
