This unit belongs to a type Q-flex produced by the South Korean shipyards Hyundai, Samsung and Daewoo since 2007. A total of 31 vessels were contracted for a buyer from Qatar. The distinguishing feature is the use of two MAN-B&W diesel engines with a power capacity of 25320 hp as a main drive and the use of a gas liquefaction system to reduce losses during transport.

Traditional LNG tankers are powered by a steam turbine which consumes a self-rezzing charge. However, this method of power supply was considered to be non-economic and replaced by the diesel system and regazifying system described above, which would allow for the non-use of valuable cargo. These units are estimated to consume 40% less energy than other types of LNG. Their size allows to carry cargo 1.5 times larger than standard units of this class. Until the introduction of larger ships of type Q-Max with a capacity of 266,000 m3 They were the largest units in this class in the world. All ships of this type belong to the Qatari Nakilat, forming together with 15 Q-Max Most of its fleet of 64 LNG and 4 LPG.
