5 years of LNG supply to the terminal in Świnoujście

130. cargo of liquefied natural gas for five years of operations of the President Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście.
In June 2021, five years have passed since the GAZ-SYSTEM Terminal LNG owned by President Lech Kaczyński in Świnoujście received the first commercial LNG cargo ordered by PGNiG. This event opened the way for diversification of sources and directions of supply of this raw material to Poland. For the first time, it was possible to import commercial gas other than Russian gas.
– President Lech Kaczyński's LNG terminal in Świnoujście allows to import gas from different directions, helping to diversify, reduce dependence on one dominant supplier and thus increase the energy security of our country. In 2020, LNG accounted for over 25% of gas imported to Poland – said Paweł Majewski, President of the Management Board of PGNiG. – We will continue to dynamically develop our LNG business. That's why we've booked additional regasification powers at the Świnoujście terminal, and also decided to charter two gas turbines to operate part of the contracts. – added President of PGNiG.
– The possibility of supplying gas by sea changed the prospects of the Polish gas sector significantly. Currently, the terminal allows to receive 5 billion metres of gas per year. After completion of the extension program of the installation, which is implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM, the regasification capacity of the facility for commercial purposes will increase by more than half. The investment will also allow new functionality of the facility, such as bunkering units directly at the new quay being built said Tomasz Stępień, President of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The terminal received for 5 years approximately 10.6 million tonnes ordered by PGNiG of liquefied gas, which after regasification corresponds to almost 15 billion cubic metres of natural gas. Most of the cargo came from Qatar and the USA, a dozen from Norway, and individuals from Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago. In the coming years, with the start of successive contracts with US LNG exporters, the number of deliveries from the US to Poland will increase significantly. PGNiG – under agreements with GAZ-SYSTEM – now reserves the full capacity of the terminal, i.e. approx. 5 billion cubic meters of regasification capacity per year. As it expands, it will have capacities of 6.2 billion cubic metres and from 2024 – 8.3 billion cubic metres.
The first commercial LNG delivery took place on June 17, 2016. Gas was transported from Qatar at the time. Almost five years later, 15 June this year. to the terminal In Świnoujście, 130th cargo of liquefied natural gas also came from Qataras. A unit called Duhail delivered approximately 90 thousand tons of LNG, equivalent to about 120 million cubic metres of natural gas in a volatile state of focus.
Duhail was built in 2008 by Daewoo Shipbuilding shipyard, flying the Bahama flag with its home port in Nassau. Its dimensions are: 315 m long, 50 m wide, dive 12.5 m. Maximum tank capacity is 210 100 m.3 LNG. The vessel's registered capacity is 137,535 units and its capacity is 121,639 DWT. Duhail has a maximum speed of 19 knots and a march of 15 knots. This ship belongs, like most of the owner's Cataeran methane tankers to the range Q-flex.
Ships referred to in this name do not belong, contrary to appearances to one type, as depending on the manufacturer they differ in appearance and (minorly) performance parameters. The distinguishing feature of the DSME construction units are the semicircular aft peacocks, the forward part of the cover of the tanks in the shape of an elongated trapezoidal trapezoid, and the characteristic "torn upward" bow pear. To distinguish the ships of Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard have rectangular aft peacocks with rounded bottom corners, and the ships built in Hyundai Heavy Industries have flat hexagon-shaped peacocks narrowing down. Additionally, the units not built in DSME have a different rectangular shape of LNG tank lids and classic bow pears.
Thanks to the use, not very popular on commercial double-screw drive ships in a system with double-score direction, Duhail Like other Q-flex is characterized by good maneuverability, which facilitates manoeuvres during mooring and decoupling from the cargo terminal.
For Duhail the current visit to Poland is the 4th stay in Świnoujście. Previous deliveries on its board took place on September 26, 2019, December 26, 2019 and February 7, 2020.
