Celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising

Yesterday, on August 1, 2024, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Numerous ceremonies took place in Tricity, Szczecin and Świnoujście, commemorating this event. That day, Warsaw stopped to celebrate the memory of the insurgents. At 5:00 p.m., at the moment of "W hour", the whole town stood still. Extensive sirens sounds, gunshots and car hornes united into a moving chorus, recalling the heroics and casualties of the people of the capital from 80 years ago.

In Warsaw, the center of anniversary celebrationsThe celebrations have already started this morning. At 10:00 a.m., the celebrations began in front of the monument "Mokotów Struking – 1944" in Orlicz-Dreszera Park. This event was inaugurated with the raising of the state flag on the mast, adding the height of the ceremony. An honorary post was also erected, which highlighted the rank of this moment and paid tribute to the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising who fought in the Mokotów district. This important event was the first item of the program of commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

The key moment of the day was the "W" hour, at 5:00 p.m., when the whole town stopped for a minute to pay tribute to the insurgents. Dmowski's Rondo, as every year, attracted crowds, and his space filled the smoke from the flared rac, creating a moving view. At Castle Square, the assembled residents formed a great symbol of the Fighting Poland, showing their unity and determination. Meanwhile, on the facade of the PAST building there were white-red flags with the emblem of the Fighting Poland, highlighting the patriotic nature of the celebrations.

Over Warsaw was flown by military transport aircraft C-130 Hercules and four F-16 fighters Jastrzeb, which was a touching gesture of tribute to Warsaw insurgents from Polish Air Force soldiers. The air show emphasized the importance and symbolism of this unique day, adding to it majesty and haughtiness. In the evening there was a symbolic fire of the Memorial Fire at the Warsaw Uprising Mound, which will burn for 63 days, commemorating the duration of the Warsaw Uprising.

In Tricity, a number of events were organized to celebrate the memory of the insurgents. A commemorative event was held in Gdańsk, at the Polish Underground State Memorial in the Cancer Market. At 5:00 p.m., according to the tradition of "W Hour", sirens began the ceremony. The Marine Border Guard Branch Representation Orchestra played the national anthem of the Republic of Poland, which gave the celebration of patriotic character.

Flowers were also laid at the Memorial of the Fallen Shipyards and at the Monument of the Victims of Hitler's Terror. Similar ceremonies were also held in Sopot and Gdynia, during which local residents and representatives of the local authorities laid wreaths and lit candles in honor of the fallen.

In Szczecin, at the Chrobry Wały next to ORP Iskra, artistic ceremonies reached their climax at 5:00 p.m. when the sailors launched the flares. This event, thanks to the floating smoke and the colorful glow, created an extremely emotional and memorable picture. The exhibition "Warsaw Uprising" was opened at the Centre for Dialogue in Przełomy. Reprocessed memory", which shows the drama of the insurrectional raven through the prism of graphics and art. The guests of the opening were Warsaw Insurgents currently living in Szczecin. The exhibition aims not only to commemorate events of 1944, but also to reflect on their impact on the contemporary history of Poland

80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising: Świnouszcie

In the Świnoujście ceremony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising began at 16:50 pm in Slavian Square, where the official ceremony with the participation of the city authorities, representatives of the 8th Coast Defence Fleet and uniformed services took place at the monument "Bohaters Walk for Independence". The salute given during the ceremony, along with the sound of sirens and typhoons, filled the whole city and port, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Additionally, on rescue towers on the beaches, flares were symbolically fired, which was a special tribute to Warsaw insurgents. These events attracted both residents and tourists, highlighting the importance of historical memory for the whole community.

Annual celebrations are not only an opportunity to commemorate the victims and heroes, but also a moment of reflection on the importance of the Warsaw Uprising in Poland's history. Pomerania, through the organisation of local events, joins the nationwide commemoration, emphasizing unity and national memory.

These events are an important element of the anniversary celebration, combining traditional forms of commemoration with modern artistic interpretations, which allows to reach a wide range of audiences and emphasize the durability of the memory of the Warsaw Uprising.
