Blood donation at the Naval Academy

After us, the last blood donation action this year at the Naval Academy. A total of 42 people donated 18,900 liters of blood. Since the beginning of the year, the University has organised as many as 11 such actions, and the academic community, mainly the subjects, has donated a total of 212,400 liters of blood.

It should be noted that very many donors of the University donate blood at individual visits to blood stations throughout the country, and thus 47,050 liters of blood were collected in 2021. In summary, in the end of the year, subjects, civil students, staff and AMW staff donated 259,450 liters of blood. This is an average of almost 22 liters of life-giving fluid per month of the year.

The Naval Academy has been involved in blood donation operations in its territory for almost 20 years, while it has been associated with the movement of honorary blood donation for more than half a century. At the University, the Club of Honorary Blood Donors of the Polish Red Cross, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, is active. Currently, the Club has 370 members and 226 supporters and brings together in its ranks not only persons forming the AMW community, but also soldiers and staff of other military units and institutions from all over the country. However, by far the largest part is the Naval Academy's 108 members and 132 people supporting the Club. So 240 military students are involved in blood donation. That's more than half the status quo! In this year, members and supporters of the HDK Club PCK at AMW gave a total of 424.55 litres of blood, and in the last eleven years – almost 3,100 litres.

It is worth noting that the University engages in various relief activities, not just blood donation. In December, a search for bone marrow donors was also organized. The students and students take part in the action "The Noble Package", organize tutoring for children, support the St. Lawrence Hospice in Gdynia and participate in many other actions.
