W Klaipeda held the Baltic Ports Conference – the largest annual event organized by the Baltic Ports Organization. In 2024, after a few years of break, Port Gdańsk became a member of the BPO again. Alan Aleksandrowicz, Vice President of the Port of Gdańsk, joined the board of directors of this organization as a representative of Polish ports.
This year's edition of the Conference of Baltic Ports behind us. These were three plentiful days. The four sessions were attended by many experts who discussed the current key issues for the port industry in the Baltic Sea region. Speakers tried to predict the future of ports in the context of geopolitics, discussed shipping prospects, transport policy, greening and energy transformation.
Alan Aleksandrowicz, Vice-President of the Port of Gdańsk took part in the session devoted to the current European transport policy and transport corridors. He participated in the discussion panel "From the Aegean Sea to Estonia, a new transport corridor – Baltic – Black – Aegean Sea (BBA) – in the context of a new geopolitical landscape".
Panelists discussed possible scenarios of times when the war in Ukraine will end and Ukraine will join the European Union. They stressed the importance of investing in transport corridors and stressed the need to reach Baltic ports to all of them.
Ukraine will be a great player and will become a large transportation hub between Europe and Asia.

According to Marina Basso, Michael (Port Hamburg) has no possibility of returning Ukraine to the state before February 2022 and we all need to focus on its reconstruction and the creation of the Marshall Plan for Ukraine.
Baltic Ports Organization is a regional port organisation that inspires and supports its members while actively cooperating with relevant partners. It was founded on 10 October 1991 in Copenhagen to facilitate cooperation between ports and to monitor and improve shipping opportunities in the Baltic Sea region. The BPO is an organization registered in Estonia (the port seat in Tallinn) and operates in accordance with the Estonian law on non-profit associations.
