Baltic Pipe: The Chakotay business for the construction of a gas pipeline. The bids will start next year

Gaz-System asked for information to potential contractors concerning the construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. The response from business was huge.
– The market survey we conducted showed that potential suppliers and contractors of the various stages of work have technical and logistical capabilities to realise further phases of investment. Thanks to the RFI procedure, we also learn their point of view on the next stages of the tendering process. The project can be implemented as planned – This is Tomasz Stępień, CEO of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The work on the offshore pipeline was divided into two main packages (supply of pipes and laying them at the bottom of the Baltic Sea) and seven additional packages. As part of the first RFI package, they are addressed to eight companies that could potentially supply suitable pipes within the expected time limit. The request was answered by all entities, seven of whom expressed an interest in receiving the order and executing the contract to the offshore pipeline. In addition, four applicants for offshore construction work also expressed their willingness to tender for the supply of pipes. This gave a total of 11 operators interested in supplying pipes, all of which accepted the planned process and tendering conditions. The answers to the Information Request also confirm the reality of the planned delivery schedule.
Another key order related to the pipeline will be the installation and installation of the pipes delivered at the seabed. All seven companies replied to the inquiry in this case, which at this stage confirmed the feasibility of the envisaged tendering process.

The creation of the Baltic Pipe pipeline also identified seven smaller packages of services accompanying the investment. The orders will include, among other things, the detection and removal of possible explosions within the pipeline route, supervision of the pipe laying process, verification and certification of the construction and installation of the pipeline by a third party.
The next step in the implementation of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline will be bilateral meetings with potential contractors of the main orders, who showed interest in their implementation and confirmed the appropriate technical potential and experience in similar projects.

According to existing assumptions, the relevant tendering process will start in early 2019. This year, GAZ-SYSTEM and Danish transmission system operator Energinet will make the final investment decision. Design work and detailed technical analyses will continue in 2019. A report on the environmental impact of investments will also be submitted in the individual countries covered by the investment and a public consultation will take place. The construction work of the sub-marine part is planned for 2020-2022.
