The first current from the offshore wind farm sailed to the Polish network

The first Polish offshore wind farm reached another milestone. Last week, Baltic Power began transferring electricity to the national network, entering the start-up phase and gradually putting the investment into operation.

The first energy from the Baltic went to the national network

Starting the first turbine and starting energy production, referred to as the First Power stage, means entering the Baltic Power project into one of the final phases of implementation. Energy generated by the first working turbines already feeds the national electricity network, and subsequent units will be gradually activated after completion starting and testing.

In parallel, all technical infrastructure including turbines, offshore power stations, land power station in Choczewo municipality and control systems are received. With the start-up of subsequent turbines, the farm’s power will gradually increase to 1.2 GW targets.

Over 80% of the work has already been done

The construction of Baltic Power is in an advanced phase. 54 of 76 turbines have already been installed at sea, the installation of both offshore power stations has been completed, and all internal and export cables with a total length of about 350 kilometres have been arranged.

Land infrastructure and power station are also ready. In the area of investment, specialised units responsible for the assembly, testing and subsequent collection of farm elements are still working.

Service base in Łeba

Since last year there has been a Baltic Power service base in Łoba. It currently supports construction work, while after the investment it will be responsible for maintaining and operating the farm for about 30 years.

There is also a Maritime Coordination Centre in Łebie to supervise the movement of units working on investments. So far, more than 100 vessels and about 5.3 thousand crew members and contractors have been involved in the project.

The farm will provide energy for more than 1.5 million households

After construction, Baltic Power will have 76 turbines of 15 MW each, reaching a total power of about 1.2 GW.

According to investors, the farm will produce approximately 4 TWh of electricity per year, corresponding to about 3% of current national energy demand and needs of over 1.5 million households.

The investment is created about 23 km from the coast, at the altitudes of Choczev and Łeba, in an area of approximately 130 km2. Some of the largest offshore wind turbines currently used were used there, equipped with nacelles produced in Poland.

After construction, the farm will pass final tests, the certification process and administrative procedures to be completed by obtaining a concession for the production of electricity issued by the Energy Regulatory Office.
