The Greek shipyard sent blocks of another French frigate FDI

Salamina Shipyards completed the construction of five pre-equipped blocks intended for the third French frigate type FDI. The last four elements left Greece on 28 August and are transported to Naval Group shipyard in Lorient.

The first of the five blocks made for this frigate were sent from Greece May 17th. The transfer of the remaining four completes the scope of the work entrusted to Salamina Shipyards on this unit. Upon reaching Lorient, the blocks will be merged with the remaining elements of the hull of the future frigate.

Amiral Castex will be the third of five FDI frigate built for French Marine nationale. At the same time, it is the seventh vessel to be implemented under the FDI programme for France and Greece.

Greek shipyard in FDI frigate program

Salamina Shipyards' cooperation with the Naval Group began in 2022. Greek The yard performs pre-equipped hull blocks and superstructures of the FDI type built for both Marine nationale and Greek Navy.

Previously, the plant had provided five blocks for the second French frigate Amiral Louzeau. The Greeks also participated in the construction of FDI HN units, including frigates Formion. The participation of Salamina Shipyards in the programme is of particular importance to the Greek shipbuilding industry, the first case where the shipyard from that country participates in the construction of a modern warship intended for the foreign navy.

FDI frigates for France and Greece

French FDI frigates are created at Naval Group shipyards in Lorient. First of them, Amiral Ronarc’h, was handed over to Marine nationale in October 2025. Another is Amiral LouzeauAnd the third will be Amiral Castex.

Ships are approximately 122 m long and buoyancy of 4,500 tonnes. The weapon includes Exocet MM40 anti-ship missiles, Aster anti-aircraft missiles, MU90 torpedoes and deck artillery.
