Boeing with patrol aircraft contract P-8A Poseidon for USA, UK and Norway

The U.S. Naval Air Systems Command agreed to a $2.45 billion US-worthy modification of the agreement with Boeing to begin construction of a total of 19 marine patrol aircraft Poseidon P-8A for the U.S. Navy, Great Britain and Norway.

According to a contract change, Boeing is expected to deliver ten P-8A to the US Navy, four to the UK government, and five to the Norwegian government. While the aircraft built for London will be the last four machines of this type, bringing the total number of aircraft in the state fleet to nine, the machines built for Norway will be the first and so far the only. In a statement of January 25, the U.S. Department of Defense stated that Boeing is to complete the contract in March 2022.

Norway ordered five aircraft in March 2017. The project is expected to cost a total of 9.825 billion Norwegian crowns (about EUR 1.1 billion), including the purchase of sensors, weapons to combat submarines and auxiliary equipment. The first machines are expected to arrive in the country in 2021 and will begin replacing the current six operated P-3 Orion aircraft and three Falcon DA-20 aircraft. All five units are estimated to arrive in Norway by 2022.

Poseidon P-8A is a derivative of a modified Boeing 737-800ERX passenger aircraft, equipped with a high-speed turbofan engine and a mission system based on open architecture. Poseidon's weaponry consists of, among others, five internal and six external stations for AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles, Mark 54 torpedoes and a high-altitude submarine control system.

Boeing's product has been a significant export success for some time with a total of five international customers. In addition to the United States, P-8A aircraft managed to sell to countries with high requirements for military equipment capabilities: Australia, Great Britain, Norway, New Zealand, as well as India. There are many indications that South Korea will become the sixth international P-8A client – in September 2018 American The department approved the sale of machinery to this country.
