Marine Military Technology Center PG will fix sonar on ORP Resko

Specialists from the Naval Military Technology Centre of Gdańsk University of Technology will implement the repair of the main sonar of the MG-89DSP Navy trawler ORP Resko. In the implementation of CMTM PG’s work within the consortium, it cooperates with Net Marine – Marine Power Service.
The ORP Resko trawler, which in the Navy of the Republic of Poland service since 1988, went to the dock where it will undergo the repair of the main sonar MG-89DSP. It will be implemented by the consortium established by the Centre for Maritime Military Technologies of Gdańsk University of Technology (the consortium leader) and Net Marine – Marine Power Service (the consortium partner).

The sonar MG-89 itself is equipment of Soviet production. This type of equipment was mounted on trawlers of the 207 project until 1991, and after 2002, they were upgraded by engineers from Gdańsk University of Technology. Modernized sonar MG-89DSP was developed by scientists of CMTM PG Hydroacoustics Team The first upgraded copy was transferred to use on the ORP Necko trawler in 2002. . As a result of the modernization, originally a fully analog sonar, it was converted to a modern sonar with digital signal processing (DSP), which is designed to search for, detect and locate bottom and anchor mines, especially in shallow waters. The solution developed by scientists from Gdańsk University of Technology allowed for improved resolution and sonar detection conditions, and also significantly simplified the procedure for its operation. Modernized sonars provide ergonomic panoramic imaging on the color base monitor, and allow the auxiliary monitor to determine the current detection conditions and roughly classify the detected objects.
The repair of the sonar on the ORP Resko ship will be carried out on the basis of a contract from May last year. This agreement concerns the repair of sonars on ORP Sarbsko and ORP Resko ships. The first stage of the contract was completed at the end of February, and about the work of specialists from Gdańsk University of Technology associated with repair of the ORP Sarbsko trawler sonar We wrote on the Shipyard Portal last year.
As we learned at CMTM PG this time the repair of the ORP Sarbsko sonar required extraordinary steps: Net Marine – Marine Power Service employees under the supervision of specialists from Gdańsk University of Technology had to completely dismantle the subkill sonar antenna team and then put the ship back on the water. In the past, sonar repairs were carried out with or at the request of the shipyards during the ship's entire repairs at the dock. This time, however, the state of the sonar was that it forced the Consortium to take these actions.

– This activity has not been performed by anyone in Poland since the installation of MG-79DSP and MG-89DSP sonars on the ships of the 207 project – noted Prof. Jacek Marshal from CMTM PG. – After the repair was completed, the ship was docked again to mount all components of the repaired sonar. The first stage of the contract ended with a positive result of HAT and SAT trials in February this year," he adds.
In addition to specialists from the Centre for Maritime Military Technologies PG and Net Marine, Marine Power Service, employees of Hydromega and Eltrko-Nauta will also participate in the repair of the ORP Resko sonar. CMTM PG is responsible for repairing sonar electronic and electrotechnical systems.
The Orp Resko trawler, like the Orp Sarbsko, is part of the 12th Volinian trawler squadron owned by the 8th Coast Defence Fleet. This is a 207 design ship built by Naval Shipyard, which entered service in the Polish fleet in March 1988. Total Polish Polish Navy has 17 ships of this type.
