PRS and DNV start cooperation on certification of offshore wind farms

Polish Register of Ships (PRS) and DNV signed a cooperation agreement in the offshore wind energy sector. Both entities will jointly apply for contracts for comprehensive certification of offshore wind farms projects planned in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

The agreement is intended to be the basis for long-term cooperation between the two organisations in the implementation of offshore wind investments. PRS will provide experience related to the Polish maritime and industrial market, knowledge of national legal conditions and the possibility of technical supervision. The DNV will provide international certification experience and knowledge of renewable energy projects.

Combination of PRS and DNV competences

Cooperation is intended to enable investors and developers of offshore wind farms to offer comprehensive certification services covering the subsequent stages of project implementation.

PRS and DNV intend to participate in joint tender procedures for certification of offshore wind investments on Baltic Sea. The combination of international standards and experience of DNV with local technical facilities of PRS is intended to allow certification processes to be conducted in accordance with both technical requirements and regulations in force in Poland.

Cooperation is to support the national supply chain

The agreement is also important for the development of national offshore wind power competences. Involvement of PRS in projects carried out jointly with DNV may encourage the increase of participation of Polish specialists and national technical facilities in offshore investment certification processes.

This agreement is an important step for the PRS in further developing our technical activities in the offshore renewable energy sector. Partnership with DNV will enable us to combine our competences and provide offshore wind farm projects with both recognised international standards and a strong national technical surveillance facility.

Both organisations indicate that the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic will require not only the construction of new farms but also the development of technical and industrial competences needed for their design, construction, supervision and subsequent operation.

Perspectives for offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea

The Baltic Sea is one of the main development areas offshore wind power Europe. In the Polish part of the basin, further investments are prepared and implemented, which will require a wide range of technical, supervisory and certification services in the coming years.

The cooperation between PRS and DNV is intended to enable both entities to participate in these projects and to offer services to investors combining international certification experience with the presence and technical facilities on the Polish market.
