China has commissioned a Jingdezhen Corvette Type 056A

On June 17, another corvette entered service in Xiamen Jingdezhen (617) belonging to the basic type of light escort units of the Chinese fleet.

The newly incorporated ship is already the 9th unit of this type introduced to service in China. It is a representative of the type intended to reach the number of up to 71 pieces. China has already built 22 ships in the basic version 056and 33 in version 056A with increased capabilities to combat submarines.

However, some reports report a reduction in the number of these relatively small units to about 60 units, to increase the number of ocean escorts. They are built in series by 4 shipyards: Hudong-Zhonghua in Shanghai, Huangpu in Guangzhou, Liaonan in Dalian, Wuchang in Wuhan.

Corvettes of this type with a displacement of 1500 tonnes and a autonomy of 15 days are intended for activities in coastal waters and in the Chinese economic exclusivity zone. Their mass production is the result of the large demand for such units and their relatively low price estimated at approximately USD 90-100 million per vessel.

The attractive price of this type of ship was one of the factors of export success (as reported by their modified variants) of sales, 4 units for Bangladesh (type) C-13B) and 2 for Nigeria (type P18N). It is worth adding that 2 ships of a very similar type Pattani (type P-15T) sold to Thailand in 2002–6 and considered the original of the whole range.
