More and more cruise ships are calling to the Danish island of Bornholm

The seaport in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm boasts that in 2018 cruise ships brought 52 percent more tourists to it than last year.

The Danish port has seen large increases for several years. In 2015, 18 cruise ships wrapped up in Rønne, which brought a total of approximately 8,000 passengers. Two years later, these numbers were much larger: 26 ships and 12,5 thousand passengers. In 2018, 42 cruise ships arrived in Bornholm port, which took 19,000 passengers to the Danish island.

Port authorities and local entrepreneurs who make money on tourists wipe their hands, as 46 cruisers will arrive in Rønne next year. The Danish estimate that these ships will bring about 30,000 passengers to Bornholm Island.

Niels Lundberg of Rønne port points out that although the port expects a similar number of cruise ships next year, they will however be much larger units. Therefore, the next season will see such a high increase in the number of tourists.

The port takes advantage of good times and invests. On 1 June next year, a new multi-purpose quay, measuring 300 metres long. The port authorities stress that it is thanks to it that they will be able to operate more cruise ships.

Port President Rønne Thomas Bendtsen says new quay will provide larger ships with better maneuvering conditions. It'll be able to be influenced by units with a depth of 11 meters. The port will be surrounded by a breakwater of 1160 metres in length.
