The European Parliament will receive a motion for a resolution calling for the blocking of Nord Stream 2

The European Parliament is expected to have a draft resolution on Thursday calling on the European Commission to block the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. He was the first to publish the tvp.info portal.

The motion for a resolution was sent on Wednesday to MEPs of the Law and is to be formally submitted to the European Parliament on Thursday. It calls on the European Commission "to take all available measures, including legal instruments in accordance with the Treaties, to bring about the immediate cancellation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline".

According to the authors of the document, Euro MPs Anna Zalewski and Zdzisław Krasnodębski, putting another gas pipeline with Russia into service would only deepen Europe's dependence on this particular energy supplier, thereby violating the principles of the European Energy Security Strategy.

The resolution also calls for "a firm opposition to the continued dependence of the Member States of the European Union on the supply of natural gas from the Russian Federation governed by the Putin regime, particularly in the light of recent events and the serious threat of war in Europe resulting from Russia's further expansion in Ukraine".

Zalevska and Krasnodębski propose to severely condemn violations of Russian international law, including Minsk agreements, by recognising the independence of the so-called People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, and then military invasion of Ukraine.

Euro MPs of the Law and Justice Committee agree that they welcome Germany's decision to suspend the certification of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, but do not want anything to happen in a few weeks or months, which many fear.

"The German government's suspension of Nord Stream 2 certification is a good direction. I suggest we go one step further and completely block the construction of NS2. Tomorrow (i.e. Thursday) I will again submit a motion for a resolution calling on the EC to block the German-Russian gas pipeline. How will Donald Tusk, the head of the European People's Party, react?" wrote Zalewski on Twitter.
