Two new ferries with DFDS

Ferries called Moby Wonder and Moby Aki will join the fleet this year and the first cruises will begin in early 2020.

DFDS concluded an agreement with Italian ferry carrier Moby to exchange two ferrythe passenger ones. The purpose of this agreement is to improve the quality of customer service and capacity on the route from Newcastle to Amsterdam.

Moby will receive two passenger ferries that currently run on this route – King Seaways and Princess Seaways, built in 1987 and 1986.

DFDS will receive from Moby passenger ferries – Moby Wonder from 2001 and Moby Aki from 2005. After joining the fleet, the ferries will change their names, but the decision has not yet been made.

Ferries from Moby are expected to be delivered in the second part of October 2019 and will be substantially modified, including commercial and technical investments on board, as well as port investments.

The DFDS will charter the ferries of King Seaways and Princess Seaways without crew, until January and February 2020.

They will provide our passengers with modern facilities on board and increase the capacity of vehicles. The new tonnage will allow the DFDS to increase passenger numbers by meeting the growing demand of passengers travelling with cars. For commodity customers we will be able to offer a larger capacity that will remain constant throughout the year."

The expected capacity of DFDS will increase by around 40%* on an annual basis and car capacity will increase by about 5% per year.
