Tour Mein Schiff Flow handed to the shipowner

Fincantieri gave the shipowner TUI Cruises a new cruiser Mein Schiff Flow. The unit was built at the shipyards in Monfalcone which is the second ship of the new Intuition series.

The ship's transfer ceremony was held at Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. The event was attended by representatives of local authorities, the management of the Italian shipbuilding company and TUI Cruises, a joint venture of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Mein Schiff Flow is the second ship of the new InTUItion series built for TUI Cruises. Several months earlier, the shipowner had received the twin Mein Schiff Relax. Both units were created as a response to the growing environmental requirements and are intended to determine the direction of development of future cruisers of this company.

Voucher of 160 thousand GT

The unit belongs to the largest ships currently built for European cruise ships. With a gross capacity of approximately 160 000 GT can take on board nearly 4,000 passengers. The project was designed from the start to reduce energy consumption and meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements.

In technical terms, the unit uses LNG-based propulsion, but has also been prepared to use alternative fuels such as bio-LNG and e-LNG. This means that emissions can be further reduced with the development of the new fuel market for maritime transport.

However, this is not the only aspect of the project. The ship has also been equipped with catalysts that meet the requirements comparable to Euro 6, a steam turbine using waste heat from diesel generators and an installation that allows electricity to be taken from the mainland at a waterfront stop.

This is particularly important at port stops. According to the shipowner's data, cruise ships spend up to 40% of their operating time there.

Attractions and spaces for passengers

In addition to emission reduction solutions, the new cruiser will also offer an extensive hotel and leisure area. According to the shipowner, the cruiser Mein Schiff Flow will be able to board 3984 passengers. 14 restaurants and bistros and 17 bars and lounges located on 19 decks were prepared at their disposal.

The ship will also have wellness and spa areas, numerous rest areas with sea views and a wide range of cabins, from standard indoor cabins to private cabins with balconies and suites. TUI Cruises emphasises that the interior design is designed to combine modern design with a large number of shared spaces intended for leisure, catering and entertainment.

Modern environmental solutions

For this structure, a great deal of emphasis was also placed on waste management. On board, a system was installed to process organic waste into materials suitable for further use by thermal process.

The tour industry has been undergoing an intense transformation for several years. Shipowners today expect not only larger and more comfortable ships, but also solutions to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. This is why new cruisers become a groundbreaking ground for further environmental technologies. Next orders for Fincantieri

Transmission Mein Schiff Flow confirms the long-standing cooperation between Fincantieri and TUI Cruises. Both companies have already signed a contract to build two further Intuition units.

The new ships are to be handed over to the shipowner in 2031 and 2032 respectively. They will be twin units towards Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow and will be built according to the latest environmental requirements.

This also means maintaining a high order book for the Italian company, which remains one of the most important manufacturers of cruise ships in the world.

Monphalcone a pillar of the Italian shipbuilding industry

The transfer of a new cruiser also underlines the importance of the shipyard in Monfalcone. The plant remains the largest passenger ship building centre in the Fincantieri Group.

So far more than 45 cruisers have been established in these facilities. Around 6,500 people work on the yard, and the plant plays an important role for both the local economy and the entire Italian shipbuilding industry.

For Fincantieri the plant in Monfalcone remains a key centre for the construction of cruise ships. It is here that most of the latest units of the Italian company were created, and the order book shows that the shipyard will retain its position as one of the most important European cruisers for the following years.
