PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and Nauta Repair Shipyard join forces in the construction of the Storm frigata

PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and Nauta Shiprepair Yard signed an agreement on 22 May to build aft block of future ORP fregata Storm – and although it is a contract between neighbours from the same city and the same capital group, its meaning goes far beyond the Tricity.

PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and Nauta Shiprepair Yard sp. z o.o. signed an agreement on 22 May 2026 to execute the GB02ft block of the frigata hull Storm – second unit built under the programme Miecznik programme for the Navy of Poland. The signing ceremony took place at Nauta Repair Shipyard in Gdynia.

On behalf of the PGZ War Shipyard, the documents were signed by: Marcin Ryngwelski, President of the Management Board, and Beata Koniarska, Member of the Management Board. Nauta Shiprepair Yard was represented by Monika Kozakiewicz, President of the Management Board.

Gdynia – one city, one program

Both shipyards are part of the Polish Armed Forces Group and are based in Gdynia, which gives a special dimension to this cooperation – construction and renovation competences concentrated in one industrial centre, aimed at the implementation of one of the most important defence programs in Poland's history.

PGZ Stocznia Wojenna full program Miecznik programme the role of the main contractor and system integrator, responsible for the technical design, quality supervision and simultaneous construction of three multitasking frigates. The commissioning of construction of individual hull blocks to specialised subcontractors is a standard practice in the shipbuilding industry, allowing optimal distribution of the production load and maintaining continuity of construction schedules.

The same model was used for the first frigate of the program – the future ORP Wind, whose bow block was completed by Gdynia Shipyard CRIST.

Nauta enters a new role

Nauta Shiprepair Yard has many years of experience in hull and refurbishment work on large vessels and established position of technical service provider for the Polish Navy. Since 2012, it has been active in major production activities in the former Gdynia Shipyard, with the infrastructure to operate the largest vessels operating in the Baltic Sea. Integration into Polish Armed Forces Group In 2014 it strengthened its role as the industrial backdrop of the Polish fleet.

Participation in the programme Miecznik programme means for the Gdynia shipyard significant expansion of the range of operations – from operating ready-to-use ships to direct participation in the construction of a new war unit from the hull phase. This is a natural direction in the development of shipbuilding competences within a capital group.

Voices of the parties

Marcin Ryngwelski, President of the Board of PGZ War Shipyard, stressed the importance of the agreement in the context of the national supply chain strategy:

We're implementing the program. Miecznik programme according to the schedule and with the maximum involvement of Polish industry. Order of aft block of frigates Storm Nauta Shiprepair Yard is another example of the fact that within the Polish Armed Forces Group we are building not only ships, but also a permanent network of shipyard competences. Gdynia is becoming an increasingly clear centre of the Polish shipbuilding industry – and this makes us happy twice.

Monika Kozakiewicz, President of the Management Board of Nauta Shiprepair Yard, noted both the rank of the program and the synergy effect resulting from cooperation within a single capital group:

We are proud to have joined the team working on the biggest program in the history of the Polish Navy. We thank the PGZ of the Shipyard for inviting us to participate in this project. Thanks to this cooperation, we will be able to exploit the synergy effect of our companies and the complementarity of infrastructure and human resources. Background

Programme Miecznik programme assumes the construction of three multitasking frigate for the Navy of Poland. The project is implemented by the Consortium of PGZ-Miecznik, which consists of the Polish Armed Forces Group and PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, in cooperation with the Babcock International Group as a technical partner. It is the largest contract in the history of the Polish shipbuilding industry, and its implementation is based on a model local content – maximum involvement of national industrial and intellectual potential.
