Gazprom explores ways of adapting Nord Stream 2 to the EU Directive

The Russian Gazprom Group has reported that it is currently investigating different options for adapting the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project to the revised EU Gas Directive, and at the same time will come to justice with its rights," said RIA Nowosti today.
The RIA referred to a prospectus accompanying the new issue of Gazprom Eurobonds. It argues that Gazprom "researches the various alternative options for adapting the Nord Stream 2 project to the requirements of the EU Gas Directive and further examines or has already applied judicial measures to defend its rights against the discriminatory nature of the amendments" in the Directive.
The company reserved that it intends to complete the construction of Nord Stream 2 within the shortest reasonable time possible.
The revised EU Gas Directive entered into force in 2019. It foresees that offshore parts of pipelines within the EU will be subject to restrictive provisions of the third energy package.
In May, the German Federal Transmission Network Agency (BNetzA) rejected the application of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline operator to exclude this bus from the revised directive. The operator, Nord Stream 2 AG, wholly owned by Gazprom, made an appeal to that decision in June.
