3. The fleet of ships named after Mr. Bolesław Romanowski is the largest striking tactical union of the Navy. Nearly 3,000 sailors and fourteen individuals – each with different character, different tasks, different specifications. This is what the most recognizable formation of Polish naval forces looks like today. The fleet units participate in various tactical and operational exercises interacting with the 8th Coast Defense Fleet, as well as with the ground troops and aviation. Units 3. FO take part not only in exercises but also in actual combat operations. Gdynia Flotila releases its ships to the prestigious NATO Response Force. The submarines four times (three times ORP Bielik and one time ORP Condor) participated in an anti-terrorism operation, led by NATO in the Mediterranean, under the codename ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR. The ORP rocket frigate Gen. K. Pulaski three times was part of the elite team of frigates and destroyers of the North Atlantic Alliance – SNMG1 (Standing NATO Maritime Group One), and the ORP Gen. T. Kościuszko in the composition of the second, twin team (SNMG2) participated in a mission in the Mediterranean, Black and Aegean Seas to prevent illegal immigration. Given that the Kaman SH-2G deck helicopters (which are part of the MW Air Brigade) carry out their basic tasks on board OHP-type rocket frigates, it should be noted that the 3rd Fleet Ship is the only tactical union in the Polish Army that is able to operate at sea, on land, in air and underwater.
