Ghana has launched 4 Flex Fighter patrols [Video]

Four new units delivered on Saturday (8 January) the Singaporen shipyard Penguin Shipyard. Ships are a militarized version of the offshore units market Flex-40 SC.

New Ghanaian units are to increase the ability to protect the country's maritime domain, including offshore oil and gas installations, which is one of the country's leading maritime problems. Their introduction will allow the fleet, using so far few and mostly outdated units, to make Ghana's maritime space safer and unattractive to pirates and other illegal activities.

Flex Fighter is 40 m long, 7.6 m wide and 1.89 m deep, reaches a maximum speed of 28 knots. The buoyancy of the unit is 279 tonnes. The ship has cabins for eight crew members and 12 security staff, can carry 54 passengers and 60 tons of cargo. Standardly equipped is in three machine guns and an armored bridge with the protection of STANAG Level 1, and additional mountings and armor are optional.

The unit has a cargo deck of 16.9 m. x 5.5 m. and an area of 93 m.2 with a strength of 2 t/ m2. Fuel supply is 86 m3 and fresh water 30 m3. In addition, the unit has an installation for desalination of sea water with a capacity of 3.4 tonnes per day. The drive is made up of three Caterpillar C32 ACERT IMO Tier 2 diesel engines with a power of 1450 hp each.
