Deep-water container terminal with Prime Minister guarantees

It is no coincidence that in Szczecin port the Prime Minister of the Polish Government spoke about the importance of Western Pomerania in the country's development strategy. This region is intended to serve as a technological and energy hub. Such functions have already been demonstrated by investments carried out for 5 years. These will be complemented by further strategic projects with government guarantees, in the field of maritime management and port services.

Port investments

The Prime Minister stressed the logical and coherent actions in West Pomerania. He stressed the importance of the largest chemical investment in Poland and this part of Europe – Polimery Police. Above all, he focused on infrastructure investments in the maritime economy. He talked about the expansion of the LNG gas terminal, which becomes one of the main gas supply locations in Poland. He pointed out the upcoming modernisation of the water track between Szczecin and Świnoujście. He particularly focused on the project of building a deep water container terminal in Świnoujście and access to the port to the sea side. He stressed the great opportunity for the port team to develop this investment.

"The new port in Świnoujście also requires deepening the water track from the sea side to the depth of 17 m and widening to 500 m so that ships, container ships can pass," said the Prime Minister. – The analytical work has been done, we are ready for these powerful investments. The terminal is an opportunity to unload 1.5 million TEU in Świnoujście and thus additional revenue to the budget, take over part of international trade, etc.

The Prime Minister recalled that maritime trade currently represents 90% of the total global trade in goods.

Communication

"Big industrial investments need a very efficient infrastructure, which involves a good road system," stressed the Prime Minister of the Polish Government, pointing to another strategic communication project, over 50 km of the western bypass of Szczecin and Polic with over 5 km tunnel under Oder, the longest in Poland. The cost of the investment is estimated at PLN 5.5 billion.

"It will be a ring around Szczecin, a communication ring that will increase the chances of new economic projects in Szczecin and the region," said the head of the government. – In the next few weeks we will announce a tender and construction works will begin in the next twenty months.

Mateusz Morawiecki also mentioned S10 – another very important communication investment connecting Western Pomerania with Central Poland and Warsaw through Stargard, Walcz, Piła, Bydgoszcz and Toruń.

"This artery will also create new economic aspects for residents and entrepreneurs of Western Pomerania," he added.

Time for investors

The infrastructure whole is complemented by powerful rail investments carried out in the port team. At a conference with the Prime Minister, Minister Marek Gróbarczyk recalled the modernization of the railway network in the port team, which was worth PLN 1.5 billion, also the infrastructure investments of the Maritime Board of Ports Szczecin and Świnoujście, which will consume a similar amount. The Minister also mentioned the reconstruction of the bridge in Podjuchy, which is to be completed in 2023. Thanks to this, the Odzańska Waterway will meet the requirements of the international class. This artery is also of great importance for the planned deep-water container terminal in Świnoujście, because it will communicate the port with the entire base along the Oder and Central Europe.
