Greece: a boat with migrants ran into rocks, four people died

At least four people died when a boat with several dozen migrants ran into rocks in southern Greece and sank – local authorities reported on Thursday. This is the second fatal accident involving migrants in the region in two days.

Coast Guard Greece reported that four bodies were pulled from the water near the rocks near Andikitira Island, which is a member of the Ionian Islands.

According to the Coast Guard, about 90 people were rescued.

On Wednesday, at least three people died when a boat with migrants sank off the coast of the island of Folegandros in the Aegean Sea. 12 people were rescued, fate 17 is unknown. Everyone saved is Iraqi.

Greece is one of the most popular routes leading to the western part of the EU among people fleeing wars and poverty from South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Most of them try to cross from the Turkish coast to the Greek Aegean Islands on the pontoons.
