Grobzarczyk: the work on the construction of the canal by Wiślana measure is going as planned

Work on the construction of the shipping channel by Wiślana is going as planned; we do not see a threat to their implementation – Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marek Grobarczyk provided on Tuesday. As he added, the opening of the channel through Mierzeja is expected to take place on September 17.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure was asked on Polish Radio 24 whether the war in Ukraine would threaten plans for the construction of the shipping channel by Mierzeja Wiślana.

Marek Grobarczyk stressed that "Mierzya Wiślana is the last infrastructure element that gives free access to the Vistula Basin basin".

As he pointed out, the entire investment-related activities were targeted by hybrid attacks.

It is claims that this investment is non-organic, that it affects the environment. In this way, dozens of documents were created, information was sent to Brussels and I had to explain myself several times to the Commissioner for Environment.

As he added, it was a propaganda action aimed at halting this investment.

The Deputy Minister recalled that the planned date of completion of the channel by Mierzeja was September 17. He pointed out that it was a symbolic date and was set "in a very safe way".

We're now after airlock leak tests. I think at the beginning of June we're going to +recommend + airlock, so we're going to prepare it for full action. We recently settled a tender to deepen the Vistula Basin itself. All work goes as planned. We see no danger to their implementation.

The new waterway connecting Zalew Wiślana with the Gulf of Gdańsk is intended to strengthen the sovereignty of Poland and make it independent of the decision of the Russian side. In order to cross the Piławska Strait, Polish units had to obtain Russian approval each time. After they build the canal, they won't have to do it. The excavation will also shorten the way of units flowing from the Gulf of Gdańsk to the Vistula River. The investment will strengthen the port in Elbląg and the ports over the Vistula.
