Grobiarczyk: next year, complete the deepening of the Szczecin-Swinoujście water track

"This is an extremely important topic for Szczecin and the Zachodniopomorskie region, the effect of extremely hard work. I think we can already announce an informal success – the whole work has been completed. The formal reception of this investment will be held next year," said Marek, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure during the session of the Committee on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation on Wednesday. He added that all work was carried out on the basis of the existing provisions "with particular emphasis on environmental decision, monitoring in this area, conducting all kinds of reports".

Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Ryszard Bartosik said that "investment has no significant impact on the results of fishing activities" in Zalewa Szczeciński west of the water track. A slightly different situation is in the area of the reservoir located to the east of the track, which results, among others, from the division of the reservoir with equipment for transporting land to artificial islands. Shipowners of fishing boats complained, at least, about the "low efficiency of fishing" and worse health of fish.

"In order to minimise the impact of investments on the fishing sector, action was taken – it was a survey of restocking and compensation," said Bartosik. He added that permissions were also issued for the restocking of flood waters with fishfish, including catfish, sturgeon and sawdust.

According to the Director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin Wojciech The funds for the project amounted to almost PLN 1.6 billion (the value of the investment is over PLN 1.9 billion). He recalled that it was about deepening the water track to a depth of 12.5 m over a stretch of 62 km and putting the property from dredging on newly established islands in Zalew Szczeciński.

‘The northern island is now completed. The hydrotechnical stone is being laid, which will serve as a strengthening of the island before blurrying, atmospheric conditions and waveforming on the Szczeciński Basin," said Zdanowicz. He indicated that this island would be a natural habitat.

The southern island, on the other hand, will be an active refulating field, "that is, a place where the Maritime Office will be able to postpone the property from the maintenance of the water track for at least 20 years." As he explained, every year it will be necessary to mine about 300-500 thousand cubic metres of land.

He added that 23 million m six-yard track had been extracted so far. "As far as the main works are concerned, they are finished and this track is deepened to 12.5 m, while work on strengthening the islands and the bottom of the track along the waterfront in Szczecin will continue until at least the end of the year," Zdanowicz said.

Zdanowicz also stressed that the important element of the project was the extraction of ferromagnetic objects from the bottom – more than 47,000 of them were mined, of which almost 2 thousand are dangerous objects – mines, missiles and ammunition (other than the Allied raids), including the most famous of bombs – neutralized by the 8th Tallboy Coast Defence Fleet. More than 100 tons of monuments were also mined, including the engine of the American B-17 bomber and the hull plating of the Lützow battleship.

During the discussion, Mr Dariusz Wieczorek (Levice) asked whether there were any delays in work relative to the timetable adopted and whether the track maintenance funds were secured in the budget.

"There are no risks in completing the investment... Work goes on schedule, next year is the final completion of work. Retireable works have been completed, finishing works are underway," the Deputy Minister said. Tomb. He added that a multi-annual programme was adopted as part of the project's sustainability to maintain the investment and has "fully secured funding".
