The PGNiG Group will hire LNG transport ships from the USA

Chartered gas carriers will be used to trade liquefied natural gas contracted from US producers. Two modern tankers will enter into service in 2023. The delivery and operation of ships will be handled by Knutsen OAS Shipping, a Norwegian company selected in the tender.
Gas turbines are two units with a capacity of 174,000 m six. each which means that the amount of cargo that each ship will be able to transport is approximately 100 million cubic metres of gas after regasification of transported LNG. Their putting into service will coincide with the commencement of the Calcasieu Pass terminal, the first of two installations exporting liquefied natural gas built by the American Venture Global LNG company, with which PGNiG has signed one of the long-term contracts.
Several companies joined the tender for the charter service for the PGNiG Group. The investigation was carried out by the London LNG trading office, which is part of the PGNiG Supply & Trading Company, which is the competence centre for the PGNiG Group to trade liquefied natural gas. The selection of the shipowner took into account, among others, the experience in the implementation of LNG, technical parameters of the offered units and price competitiveness of offers. According to the agreement with Knutsen OAS Shipping, the chartering period of both ships is 10 years with the possibility of extension. The shipowner will be responsible, among others, for the crewing of ships and for ensuring the technical condition of the units throughout the duration of the contract.
Currently in the PGNiG import portfolio, the volume of contracts for US LNG is approximately 9.3 billion cubic metres per year after regasification. About 7 billion m six will come from the contracts contained in the FOB commercial formula, according to which PGNiG is responsible forCargo LNG from the supplier, transport and roCargo in the destination port. The company therefore needs adequate transport capacity, but it gains flexibility. The cargo can be diverted to Poland or, if sold on the market, to another LNG import terminal in the world.
