Hidenfjord breeds abandon air services, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by 94% [WIDEO]

On the anniversary of the adoption of the Agenda for Sustainable Development, Hiddenfjord, a breeding of Atlantic salmon, celebrates a radical reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. By replacing salmon-carrier aircraft, the CO2 emission reduction is 94%.

As part of the celebration of the first anniversary of undertaking to reduce the carbon footprint, Hiddenfjord, a family-owned sheepfish farm supplying fresh salmon to North America and Europe, publishes the results of independent research confirming that CO2 emissions are almost completely eliminated from transport activities.

On October 10, last year, Hidenfjord's breeding completely abandoned the use of air services and thus became the world's first salmon farmer to use only more sustainable, low-carbon freight transport. In the film produced to celebrate the achievement of this milestone, the company shows in detail how the use of deep sea ships to provide continuous supply of excellent taste, fresh salmon to customers from Europe and North America has contributed to achieving a unique, 94% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from overseas transport activities over just one year.

"We have no doubt that salmon was created to swim rather than fly," said President Atli Gregersen, referring to the company's worthwhile initiative to reduce CO2 emissions. – Besides, we are convinced that we are responsible not only for delivering the best quality salmon, but also for delivering it in a sustainable way".

Although salmon farming has a significantly less harmful environmental impact than other most popular meat, a significant proportion of farmed salmon is transported by air. Air transport is the biggest contributor to global CO2 emissions. The report of the Norwegian research organisation SINTEF of 2020 showed that air transport produces about 50 times more CO2 than transoceanthe transport of goods.

For Hiddenfjord to achieve this goal while maintaining the quality of salmon, it was not easy – it involved operational procedures overflowing with ingenuity and innovation. In order to achieve the stated objective, the company developed a unique processing and cooling system to preserve the freshness of the salmon, and had to reorganise the entire global distribution chain. These innovative activities, supported by the unique, Hiddenfjord system of stress-free farming, have positively contributed to maintaining high quality salmon.

"We have proved that the quality of our salmon is as perfect as that provided by air transport," said Gregersen announcing the results of the latest survey conducted by the Consumer Research Centre. In an unmarked organoleptic selection study, more than 100 customers were unable to distinguish between salmon carried by air and sea, nor to assess it in terms of taste, texture and smell. "By developing a unique processing and cooling system and optimising our transport process by sea, during which constant temperature control is carried out, we have maintained the high quality of the salmon we are growing oceanWe even extended its freshness."

The Hiddenfjord motto "Fried in the Environment" reflects the farming practices used perfectly suited to the sustainability concept, in which salmon is grown in open water tanks Oceanu Atlantyckiego okalających Wyspy Owcze, w połowie drogi między Islandią a Norwegią.

Łososia pakuje się w wewnętrznej fabryce i utrzymuje w stałej, kontrolowanej temperaturze do chwili dostarczenia do klientów w ponad dwunastu państwach świata.
