According to a statement from the Press Office of the Government of India, on May 17th this country's naval ships, the Kalcuta INS Kochi and INS Chennai rocket destroyers, carried out the first successful cooperative firing using medium-air missile (MSRAM) of the Barak-8 system. The test took place near the coast of India in the Arabian Sea.

It was also pointed out that the shootings took place with commitment from the Israeli arms company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the Indian Navy and the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as well as several minor entities.
The entire programme of development of the Barak-8 missile system with a range of 70 km for India has been run since 2006 by IAI and DRDO. Its current cost is estimated at 1.4 billion US dollars.
A press spokesman for the Indian Navy said that the test carried out in May was carried out at the smooth transfer of data from one destroyer to another through a locally created system. Among the entities involved in its creation were the serially producing MSRAM Bharat Dynamics Limited missiles and the DRDO Research and Development Laboratory, which works on the development of missile missiles.
– After proving the feasibility of this kind of cooperative shooting, Indian Polish Navy It became part of a selected group of Navys possessing this niche ability. It significantly improves the combat effectiveness of the Indian Navy, thus providing an operational advantage over potential opponents, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defence of India.
Based on the Barak-8 system, Indian MSRAM is suitable for mounting on Calcutta-type destroyers and will also be equipped with future seven frigates of design 17A. A $1.28 billion US-dollar contract was signed in September 2018. In addition to Indian Navy, other MSRAM users are Polish Navy Israel and Indian land and air forces.
