Canada has imposed further sanctions on Russia.

Canada imposed further sanctions on Russia on Wednesday. They concern 10 people from two companies in the Russian energy sector, Gazprom and Rosnieft," said Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly in a communication.
The latest sanctions are the freezing of assets and the ban on transactions with those covered. Canada's decisions were coordinated in international partners and allies, and the MFA Communication announced further consultations "if Russia continues to carry out aggressive actions towards Ukraine". "Every act of aggression on the part of Russia will meet with actions aimed at weakening its ability to wage war," she stressed in Joly's communication.
On Monday, Russian ships are banned from entering Canadian territorial waters and ports, as well as the ban on transactions with the Russian central bank. The assets of Russian government funds were frozen. Also on Monday, the Canadian government banned Russian oil imports from Canadian operators. On Sunday Canada closed its airspace for Russian aircraft.
In the last week Canada announced a package of sanctions, including against Russian President Vladimir Putin and supported Russia's exclusion from SWIFT's international bank settlement system. She also introduced new sanctions against Belarus as a country that facilitated the invasion. The Canadian MFA concluded that since Russia's illegal seizure of Crimea in 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions on over 850 people and entities.
