The railway supports Polish ports. Important agreement signed

On May 10, at the seat of PKP S.A., the key "Agreements of Operators of Transhipment Terminals and Logistics Centres of Central and Eastern Europe" was signed. It is an initiative in which the railway supports Polish ports, aimed at strengthening cooperation between key players in the logistics market.

The parties to the agreement are, among others, Polish State Railways S.A., the Board of Maritime Port Gdynia S.A., the Board of Maritime Ports Szczecin-Świnoujście S.A., as well as numerous transshipment terminals and logistics centres from all over Poland. The signatories also included PKP Cargo Logistics Center Małaszewicze Sp. z o.o., Silesian Logistics Centre S.A. and Euroterminal Sławków Sp. z o.o. The joint initiative aims to create an organization that will operate under the name "Organization of operators of handling terminals and logistics centres – Central and Eastern Europe".

According to the assumptions, this organisation is to promote terminals and logistics centres in new markets, support the implementation of modern technologies in logistics processes and strengthen cooperation to implement common business and investment strategies. In this way the railway supports Polish ports while strengthening the entire transport system of the country.

President of the Board of the Maritime Port of Gdynia S.A., Adam Meller, stressed that the Agreement was an opportunity to meet the key objectives of the Gdynia Port Development Strategy until 2027 and the Government Strategy for Responsible Development until 2030. In particular, the railway supports Polish ports through the development of intermodal transport infrastructure, which allows for a better connection of sea ports to the railway network and the development of Polish logistics centres.

This is not the first such cooperation between PKP S.A. and the Management Board of Gdynia Sea Port. Previously, in the framework of the FRACHT 2018 Intermodal Transport Forum, both parties signed a letter of intent to strengthen cooperation. Such initiatives show how important the role of railways in supporting Polish ports, not only in the context of infrastructure development, but also in international promotion.
