Another two methane ships in the ORLEN fleet

Saint Barbara. and Ignacy Łukasiewicz These are the latest ORLEN Group units adapted for the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG). At Hyundai's Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo, there was a baptism of these modern units, which will start service this year, thereby strengthening the company's ability to obtain natural gas and improving Poland's energy security.

The choice of names was not random. Saint Barbara., as a patron saint of miners and oilmen, symbolizes care for security. On the other hand Ignacy Łukasiewicz is a tribute to the character who played a key role in the history of the oil industry.
Two new methane ships will be used for both long-term and spot contracts in the free-on-board (FOB) formula, where the ORLEN Group will be responsible for gas collection and transport. Owning our own units gives the Polish Group more flexibility in operation on the LNG market and allows to control transport costs.

Geopolitical context and increased demand for LNG
The natural gas market has experienced many changes in recent years, largely driven by geopolitical tensions. Especially the war in Ukraine and relations with Russia influenced supply directions. The year 2022 brought an increase in LNG imports to the EU, and this trend is also continued in 2023.
ORLEN Group strategy and its importance
The ORLEN Group strategy focuses on strengthening Poland's energy independence. Thanks to diversification of supplies, the Polish energy company helped Poland avoid dependence on one supplier through diversification of supplies. Having our own units increases our logistics capacity, guaranteeing security of supply and reducing transport costs.

Ultimately, the ORLEN Group fleet will consist of 8 methane-ships with a capacity of approximately 70 thousand tons of LNG each, providing Poland with stable access to this raw material.

Currently, the ORLEN Group has two methane ships – Lech Kaczyński and Gęsicewhich ensure regular delivery. In the coming months, the company plans another LNG supply to our country. ORLEN is constantly developing its strategy, highlighting the importance of diversifying energy sources for the security and energy independence of Poland.
Investment in the construction of new units, such as methane ships, is a key element of the company's long-term strategy. These activities not only provide the development of infrastructure needed to acquire natural gas, but also aim to meet the growing national demand and enable Poland to strengthen its position as an important player on the international market.
Significant infrastructure development, including the extension of the LNG terminal, enables ORLEN to manage supplies efficiently and flexibly. The company also buys to cooperate with international partners, seeking to conclude favourable trade and investment agreements.
These actions are part of the ORLEN Group's broad mission to build a strong, competitive and environmentally sustainable economy based on innovation and modern technologies. In this context, the development of the LNG sector is crucial not only for the company but for the whole country.
