Another icebreaker "Nerpa" launched at the Gryfia shipyard

It is another unit built under the project "Building icebreakers for RZGW Gdańsk", co-financed by the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, on behalf of the Regional Management Board of Water Management in Gdańsk.

The MSR Gryfia implements for the orderer the construction of a total of four units: three linear icebreakers and one leading one, which will work on the section from the dam in Włocławek to the mouth of the Vistula River. The first two units, the Puma head icebreaker and the first Narwal line icebreaker, were handed over to the contracting authority for reception in September and October 2020. In February this year, both units took part in patrolling the Vistula water track during this year's ice action.

The launched Nerpa is a linear icebreaker used to extend the gutter in ice broken by the front icebreakers and its breaking in the reach area for the larger front icebreakers, can swim in a tight chair or silage to prevent them from stopping and forming congestion. The unit is equipped with equipment that allows to perform the functions of tugboat as well as rescue, fire and hydrographic. The icebreaker drive is the main engine driving the fixed screw. The last fourth Manat unit is waiting for launch. The construction of both units is timely. All units are built under the supervision of the Polish Register of Ships S.A.
