Eneco company will buy electricity from Belgian offshore farms Seastar and Mermaid

The Dutch energy company Eneco will buy energy that will be produced on offshore wind farms in Belgium, writes the portal gramwgreene.pl.

It is Seastar and Mermaid offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 487 MW, whose construction is expected to cost EUR 1.3 billion and which are expected to start energy production in 2020. Generation is to compare the total demand of approximately 500 000 Belgian households.

The Mermaid Wind Farm will be located approximately 54 km from the coast and wind plants will be planted at depths of 40 metres. The Seastar wind farm will be located approximately 40 km from the coast, and windmills will be installed at depths up to 38 m.

In both projects, 58 Siemens Gamesa Renewables turbines with 8 MW unit power will be used, the SG 8.0-167 Direct Drive model. SGRE also signed a service contract with the developer of these wind farms, which would be valid for 17 years.

Eneco, who is to buy all the energy generated by the Seastar and Mermaid wind farms, is at the same time one of their owners, holding 12.5% shares in the consortium also created by Otara (70%) and Engie Electrabel (17,5 pp.).

This is another PPA agreement to receive renewable energy, which the Dutch energy company will sell to its customers. The recipients of renewable energy from Eneco include Dutch next, Dutch post office, Audi or Mars.

In Belgium, off the coast of which Seastar and Mermaid wind farms will be built, Eneco is the largest power producer from photovoltaics thanks to installations with a total capacity of 60 MW, consisting of 250,000 photovoltaic modules. By 2020, Eneco is expected to install another 100,000 PV modules in Belgium.

Eneco is also the operator of the largest wind farms in the Netherlands. These include Luchterduinen projects with a power of 129 MW or Princess Amalia with a power of 120 MW.

The Dutch company also participates in the Norther offshore wind farm project, which will be built off the coast of Belgium and whose capacity will reach 370 MW, which will consist of 44 MHI Vestas turbines with a unit capacity of 8.4 MW.
