Press conference and exhibition at the Marine Science Centre [FOTO]

On Thursday, December 3, a press conference was held at the Marine Science Centre.
with a presentation of the exhibition entitled „Know the history of Łashtowni – the new heart of Szczecin". MCN Director Witold Jablonski presented the idea of the exhibition and its author.

– One of our activities is to present the achievements of Szczecin's creators, which is why we started working with Dr. Marek Łuczak, who made a choice of photographs depicting the life of Łasztowna before the war and shortly after the war. The Szczecinians are happy to take walks here, so they will be able to learn the history of this place," said MCN Director Witold Jabłoński.

– I am very happy to cooperate with Mr Marek Łuczak, because I have always admired his passion for discovering the secrets of Szczecin. One of the places that today re-creates their definition is Łashtownia, which once pulsed with life and then collapsed due to a breakdown in the maritime economy. For about 10 years, we have been trying to bring this place back to life by a common effort of local governments and private institutions. It started with the Old Slaughterhouse and the vision of Mrs Laura Hołowacz, which we supported as a regional government with the Jessica instrument of nearly PLN 8 million. Today the Old Slaughterhouse operates active business and cultural activities. The picturesque Marina was also created with support for EU funds. Another facility, i.e. the Marine Science Centre, is created thanks, among other things, to 94 million PLN from the Regional Operational Programme of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship and it will be a very important element of revitalization and redefinition of Łasztowni. I would like this part of the city to become a symbol of the morsity of Szczecin and the region, its economic, scientific and cultural strength – said the marshal of Olgiard Geblewicz Voivodeship.
– Next week, he will take another important step towards the establishment of the MCN – signing a contract with the contractor of the permanent exhibition Centre. It is not just an art to build the object itself, it must also be saturated with intriguing content.

Dr. Marek Łuczak talked about works consisting of an outdoor exhibition located along the Oder River building of the Marine Science Centre. The exhibition consists of large photograms depicting pre-war Szczecin on old photographs and postcards. Marek Łuczak is president of the Pomeranian Historical Society, author of a series of monographs on the history of Szczecin and numerous historical publications. He is also a composer and songwriter ("Outsider").

– This is an unusual place, almost completely destroyed in 1944, when almost all buildings, churches, the main street turned into ruins. The exhibition aims to show this place when it flourished as part of the city with cafes, hotels, moored units, full of human bustle and activity," said Dr. Marek Łuczak.
