Kongsberg plans to promote the Vanguard OPV project

The Norwegian armed group Kongsberg together with its Croatian subsidiary KONGSBERG NAVIS, Salt Ship Design AS and Croatian staff of Kongsberg Maritime are preparing an OPV supply offer for the VANGUARD project for southern European countries in the Mediterranean.

A multi-tasking vessel of the VANGGUARD project, which could be proposed by the Norwegians in future programs for the purchase of sea-wide patrol vessels, is to be the basis of the offer to build sea-going patrols.

The VANGUARD project, thanks to a design that allows to easily adapt the ship to various tasks, allows to offer a modern system of surveillance and protection of territorial waters. In addition to the possibility of implementingon a unit of various equipment that makes it an effective operating system, the OPV of this type is to use the UAV and the USV, which operate in manned, remote or autonomous mode.

The space separated by the ship, on the midship, which is not only a hangar for helicopter and unmanned aircraft, but also a rapidly reconfigured mission space, is intended to allow the ship to adapt to its tasks within hours. The ship was designed to launch and return organic machinery at high sea states. Missionary equipment uses ISO containers.

The main features of OPV VANGUARD are, according to Kongsberg, the ability to control the area twice as much as possible using conventional OPVs.

The ship would be built according to the highest civil standards of the IMO, using military weapons and communications standards. Such assumptions should reduce the costs of purchasing and operating the ship, estimated at about 50% of the costs required using typical military solutions.
