Containers at the Szczeciński Coast at the Port of Gdańsk

The Samskip company introduces a weekly connection between Gdańsk and ports of Denmark and Norway. Thus, a new regular container line appeared on the Szczecin Coast in Port Gdańsk.
Quay Szczecińskie in Port Gdańsk, thanks to the cooperation of the Port of Gdańsk Operation and Samskip, will operate a container connection between Scandinavia and Poland.
In Samskip containers to Gdańsk frozen fish will be transported, in export the ship will take construction materials and consumer goods. The service is also suitable for handling oversized loads on specialized containers.
"The revival of the inner part of the Port of Gdańsk is one of our priorities. This is why we rebuild the waterfront along the Dead Vistula River and deepen the port channel. It is a particularly sensitive port site – with certain possibilities due to depth and width. We are pleased that PGE's cooperation with Samskip has a significant contribution to this revival. It shows that containers can be transhipped not only in the deep water part of the Port," said Marcin Osowski, Vice President of the Board of the Maritime Port of Gdańsk for Infrastructure.
Two Samskip units will be rewrapped to the Szczeciński Coast – one ship will appear every Friday at the Gdańsk Port.
‘The choice of the container wrapping site is not accidental. The transport offered by Samskip will compete with the cars. As the main handling operator at the Gdańsk Port in Inner Port, we can shape logistics processes" – said Radosław Stojek, President of the Gdańsk Port of Operation.
The service is carried out to Oslo, Aarhus, Tananger, Bergen and Alesund, where Samskip has a refrigeration hub. The port of Aarhus in Denmark is the place of handling goods to container service to Reykjavik. Another stop on the route from Scandinavia to Poland will be Hamburg, from which the container ship will affect the Baltic by the Kilon Canal.

The maritime service from Gdańsk, where Samskip makes deliveries from door to door, is an alternative to road transport due to transport time, favourable cost structure and less environmental damage. We hope that the service will help in further expansion of Polish exporters in Norway" - added Filip Chajęcki, Managing Director of Samskip in Poland.
Samskip comes from Iceland, but its headquarters is located in Rotterdam.
The company's authorities have already noted the possibilities of cooperation with Port Gdańsk. The consequence of this was the opening of a commercial office in Gdańsk in 2017. The company carries out transports from Poland on commercial lines to Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway, Denmark and other European countries.
