Search and rescue action in the vicinity of the village of Chony

On May 29, W-3WARM helicopter crew with 44. The Naval Aviation Base carried out an effective search and rescue operation, locating a missing surfer off the coast of the Peasants. This is the seventh intervention of the BLMW airmen this year.

Dynamic search and rescue action with air and sea

Rescue operations took place in the early afternoon hours. At 13.56 the Marine Rescue Coordination Center reported the disappearance of a surfer in the area of Peasants. The weather conditions were difficult – Wind surges reached 6 degrees On the Beaufort scale. The crew of the W-3WARM helicopter from the 44th Naval Aviation Base in Darłów picked up the machine at 2:18 p.m.

After less than 15 minutes of flight, the machine reached the search area. After another 20 minutes, the crew managed to locate the victim. His position was immediately transferred to the crews of the Marine Search and Rescue Service units – m/s Glass and R-18which carried out activities from the surface of the sea. The condition of the man found did not require medical intervention.

Action coordination was carried out from Marine Operations Centre – Component Command Morski, where he was responsible for the actions was the Emergency Operations Division.

Naval emergency preparedness

The Naval Aviation Brigade is the only formation in Poland to maintain a 24-hour readiness to conduct operations of SAR and ASAR over sea basins, as part of the obligations arising from the "Convention on the Search and Rescue of the Sea" and "Convention on International Civil Aviation".

This system is based on the crews of W-3WARM helicopters stationed at the 43rd Marine Aviation Base (Gdynia Babie Doła) and 44 Naval Aviation Base (Dearly) and M28B 1R patrol aircraft Breeze, on duty at the airport in Siemirowice.

Since the start of this system, BLMW airmen have already participated in 813 rescue operations, providing assistance to 435 people.
