Zapad-2025 and the Pacific Fleet – a demonstration of Russia's forces on many fronts

On September 12, the Russian Pacific Fleet launched scheduled maneuvers in the Kamchatka and Chukka region. Nuclear submarines and submarines participate in the maneuverseandPacific Fleet missile and artillery sub-units armed with the Bastion system. The official goal is to shield shipping routes in the North Pacific and secure the coastal zone.

Russian Ministry of Defencereported that this year's Pacific Fleet maneuvers were the culmination of the summer training cycle. They are commanded by Admiral Victor Liin, and more than ten submarines, including missile cutters, several atomic submarines, and naval aviation, were sent to participate. Coastal batteries are also an important elementK-300P Bastion(rapid coastal defence system), a pillar of coast cover in the Far East.

Although Russian communications traditionally do not provide details of types and numberssubmarines, their inclusion itself is a deterrent element. The scenario foresees episodes of combating sea drones and diversion groups in Kamchatka, which shows that the experience from the Black Sea has been transferred to the Pacific. Even at the beginning of September, Russian MON reported useBastionsduring exercises in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Country, where simulated sea target impacts were made.

K-300P Bastion-Pis a mobile coastal coastal defense system armed with P-800 Onyks (3M55) anti-ship missiles. In typical flight profiles, its operational range is estimated to be around 300 km, although Russian publications show values reaching nearly 600 km. The effectiveness of the system depends on the recognition and indication of objectives, implemented among others by Monolit-B/BR stations. The location of Bastions in Kamczatka and Czukotka allows Russia to control the approaches to Pietropawłowska Kamczaki, the Bering Strait and the aquenas on which nuclear submarines operate.

Presumably, the scenario also includes elements concerning the marine component of the nuclear triad. In practice, it is about checking the readiness of nuclear submarines to enter patrol areas, maintaining continuity of communication and carrying out command procedures without revealing their position. It is important to combine activities with coastguard measures, including marine recognition and Bastion batteries, which creates an umbrellafor base areasAnd come to them. The Russian side does not reveal details, which is why this component should be treated as an analytical application resulting from the choice of strength and place of exercise.

The Pacific fleet is closing maneuvers. Bastions and atomic submarines

This year's Pacific Fleet exercises take place in parallel with maneuversZapad-2025in the Western theatre of action. In the Arctic and the Baltic, Russians accentuate their impact capabilities – the launch of a hypersonic missile was expected to take place in the Barents Sea during Russian-Belarusian maneuvers, and an additional element are the flights of MiG-31K fighters with Putin's super-arms – Ch-47M2 rocketsKindzar. In the Far East, however, emphasis was placed on defending shipping routes and integrating different types of forces. Russian North Fleet withinZapad-2025She began deploying her ships in special zones – reported Russian media. Such a combination builds a picture of simultaneous readiness in several areas and is a signal addressed to NATO allies – with particular emphasis on the US and Japan.

However, the fact that Russian communications are frugal in detail cannot be ignored. We don't know the number or types of atomic submarines, nor do we know the actual Onyx missile shootings in the present.exercise series. This lack of transparency is a constant element of Russian information practice and hinders independent assessment of the scale of current exercises.

The Pacific Fleet maneuvers are therefore on the one hand a routine summary of the training cycle, on the other hand a demonstration of force at a time when Moscow simultaneously sends signals from the Arctic, Baltic and Far East. Enable drone episodes and integrate system usageBastionwith the activities of submarines and aviation testify to conclusions drawn from the war in Ukraine. This is part of the adaptation of the Russian doctrine, which in the coming years can be increasingly observed also in other waters.
