Merkel announced that further talks with the US on Nord Stream 2

German Chancellor Angela Merkel estimated on Tuesday that there would certainly be further discussions with the U.S. government on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The US recently announced that they would not impose sanctions on a company overseeing the construction of a pipeline linking Russia and Germany.
"There will certainly be further discussions and talks with the Americans about Nord Stream 2," said Merkel reporters at the Tuesday summit of EU leaders in Brussels.
On May 20, the U.S. State Department reported in its report to Congress that it would not impose sanctions on the NS2 construction company – Nord Stream AG and its head Matthias Warnig. This was motivated by reasons of national interest. The decision raised criticism of American legislators.
On Saturday, several ships and companies involved in the construction and Russian naval rescue service were reported to be sanctioned by the US Treasury Ministry.
The pipe, consisting of two strands, is almost complete. The Budowie oppose, among others, Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States, stressing that the completion of the project will increase Europe's dependence on gas imports from Russia and will expand Kremlin's political influence.
