Modernization of the offshore windea Leibniz specialist unit at Ulstein Verft

SOV (Service Operation Vessel) Windea Leibniz returns to Ulstein Verft for modernization. Once the adjustable (variable working height) wheel is installed for the assembly bridge and the number of single cabins for workers is increased by 50%, the unit will also be ready for tasks in the Baltic and North Sea as CSOV (Construction SOV).

The ship was delivered by Ulstein Verft in 2017 and is therefore a relatively new unit characterized by exceptional quality and finishing. The high quality of the construction resulted in the decision of the owner Bernhard Schulte Offshore to carry out modernization just in Ulstein Verft.

After the reconstruction, it will be one of very few ships with 60 individual cabins for workers. This means that with a larger assembly crew, the unit will be able to be used as a construction ship (Construction-SOV). In addition, installing a adjustable plinth for the mounting bridge means that the ship can operate all the heights of drilling systems used in the North Sea. In addition, it will be one of the few specially built SOV ships that can work in the Baltic Sea, where the height of drilling systems is lower.

Windea Leibniz it has been a very effective unit since the beginning of operation. The unit worked five years for Siemens Games, performing service on the Sandbank and DanTysk offshore wind farms as part of their Service Train Concept. She then held a summer campaign for GE at the Merkur Offshore Wind Farm. It has recently been used to install power cables for a wind farm built in the Baltic Sea.

Windea Leibniz arrived at Ulstein Verft on 31 October 2022, and the completion of the modernization is scheduled for February 2023. Expectations towards modernization of this unit are very high, despite the fact that it is now a top-class ship with a high level of environmental protection including very low diesel consumption in dynamic positioning mode (DP) thanks to the Siemens Blue Drive installed.
