Morawiecki: I would like US troops to strengthen their presence in Germany and Poland

I would like both American troops in Germany and American troops in Poland to strengthen their presence," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday.
The head of government was asked in the press briefing on Wednesday what hopes he had in a possible visit of President Andrzej Duda to Washington, D.C., as well as in the confirmation by President Donald Trump that the US would reduce the number of military stations in Germany to 25,000. In early June, the White House reported such plans to the "Wall Street Journal". According to Reuter, some of the soldiers withdrawn from Germany are to be sent to Poland and other allied countries and some return to the United States.
"No decisions have been made on the relocation of troops from one NATO area to another NATO area; for now there are US decisions that have not been operationalised either. Above all, we would like to further strengthen NATO's presence on the eastern flank," Morawiecki said. He added that today the threat to Europe is mainly seen in the East and the South. "So the eastern flank and the southern flank of NATO should be strengthened," he added.
The Prime Minister said that he would most wish that "the shift of US troops" should treat "as a new military presence in Poland". "I would like both US troops in Germany and US troops in Poland to strengthen their presence; NATO troops in particular," said the Prime Minister.
He pointed out that five years ago there were about 500 American soldiers in Poland and today there are about 5,000 of them. "We are betting on security. President Andrzej Duda focuses primarily on security. And this security – in view of what is happening in the East, there is nothing to hide – has been strengthened," the head of government said.
As he added, thanks to the President's activities, security "has been strengthened unprecedentedly." "These are both new NATO troops that guarantee security, but these are also new types of armed forces in the territory of the Republic of Poland," said the Prime Minister.
He added that President Duda also had a "great success in abolishing the visa for Poles going to the United States". "No one could do that for 30 years. President Andrzej Duda achieved what he tried for during his previous several talks (with the President of the USA – PAP) in the autumn of last year and today there are no visas for Poles" - said Morawiecki.
