ITALIAN DESIGN MUSEUM ON COSTA SMERALD

Costa Cruises announced a plan to create an Italian design museum aboard Costa Smerald, a new flagship whose delivery is scheduled for November 2019. In the museum, called Costa Design Collection (CoDe), the best Italian design will be presented, representing key areas of innovation in design. The CoDe collection will appeal to Italy's history, showing the global impact of Italian creativity, which is still dominant.

The curator of the project will be Matteo Vercelloni, Professor of Design History at Polidesign (Politecico University, Design) in Milan, who regularly collaborates with magazines on architecture and design such as INTERNI and Abitare.

"Co.De will aim to present by selecting artifacts – many of which are still produced by Italian companies – the vitality of objects and equipment that have remained classics of Italian design since the 1930s. 20th century to this day," said Vercelloni. "The museum resembles an Italian self-portrait; a complicated story composed of many other stories."

 The central location of the museum, designed by the creative director of Costa Cruises, Adam D. Tihana, will encourage guests to visit repeatedly during the trip.
