A malfunction has been removed on the Elbląskie Channel; the movement of the units will soon be restored

On the Elbląg Canal, the accident occurred on the slipway in the Angles, which caused the movement of units to stop completely. Polish waters are waiting for the decision to allow the slipway to move – told PAP on Thursday the spokesman of the Regional Water Management Board in Gdańsk Bogusław Pinkiewicz.
There was a breakdown on the Elbląg Canal on May 2. The derailment of the lift trolley at the angle, during the transport of the passenger ship, caused the navigation to cease. None of the passengers or staff were injured. Everyone was evacuated to shore.
As stated in the RZGW communication in Gdańsk, after lowering the water level in the area of the Kąta slope, the site of the trolley falling off the rails was located and the cause of the fault and repair of the track was started. ‘Probably, there has been a so-called fatigue of the material. To the end, there is no certainty as to what caused the failure" - pointed out Pinkiewicz.
As he added, the RZGW is currently waiting for the decision of Transport Technical Surveillance to allow the slipway to move. You also have to fill the canal with water. Most likely, shipping traffic will be taking place normally by weekend.
We estimate that due to the failure of about 40% of the units that planned the crossing during the May weekend did not pass through the Elbląskie Canal, he stressed.
The Elbląskie Canal is a unique waterway – a team of 5 slipways, on which ships cross on platforms set on rails. The track-extractors used for this purpose are mechanically driven by water flow.
