Naval Ship Management with a contract for technical support of Canberra ships.

The Australian Government granted the contract to Naval Ship Management (NSM) for technical support to two Canberra-type landing ships. The value of the contract is about 1.5 billion Australian dollars and the duration is five years, with the possibility of double extension for another such period. In addition to the technical service of the two mentioned units, the agreement also includes support for 12 landing amphibious vehicles on Canberra ships.
"The NSM has documented achievements in the field of innovation, efficiency, cooperation and strengthening the potential of Australian workers in implementing similar support programmes," said Australian defence minister Christopher Pyne. "We look forward to working with them to securely provide resources for landing ships, providing them with the required availability and efficiency," Pyne added.
"We are delighted that we were chosen for this strategically important role, which is based on our relationship with the Australian Armed Forces," said Babcock’s CEO, Archie Bethel. "With the NSM, we will use Babcock’s digital asset management capabilities to support this strategically important capacity in the coming decade and later years", he added.

Australia has two Canberra-type landing ships – HMAS Canberra and HMAS Adelaide. They entered service in 2014-2015 and their hulls were built on a design of a Juan Carlos ship at the shipyard owned by the Spanish company Navantia. The superstructures of both units and their equipment were mounted by the Australian branch of BAE Systems. These are ships with a displacement of 27,500 tons and a length of over 230 m capable of carrying up to 1,600 soldiers or up to 18 helicopters.
Naval Ship Management is a joint venture owned (by 50%) by British company Babcock and Australian UGL Limited designed for both entities to provide support for the operation of various types of units in the service of the Royal Australian Navy. In 2012, the NSM won a contract to repair and operate ANZAC-type frigates and in 2016 was awarded a multi-year contract to maintain these frigates.
