Navantia and Industry Day in Gdynia: cooperation for the shipbuilding industry

On May 9, at the Naval Academy in Gdynia, an inaugural session of Industrial Day, organised by the Spanish shipbuilding group Navantia and its partners, was held, as we mentioned last week.

The meeting aimed at discussing cooperation and new opportunities in the field of defence at sea and prospects of cooperation with the Polish shipbuilding sector in the context of new maritime programmes such as Orka submarine program, which is strategic for the modernization of the Polish Navy.

Navantia and Industry Day in Gdynia: A broader description of this event

The event was officially opened by Ramiro Fernández Bachiller, Spanish ambassador to Poland. It was followed by Alfonso Valea, sales director of Navantia to Poland, who presented the company's structure and resources and its extensive experience in technology transfer (ToT – Transfer of Technology). The growing cooperation with Polish industrial companies has also been highlighted, especially in the provision of materials and technologies necessary for the construction of modern marine units.

Technology Transfer Program (ToT)

Navantia has extensive experience in implementing ToT programs in countries such as Australia, Saudi Arabia and Norway. As part of these programmes, Navantia focuses on training and coordinating key livelihoods, knowledge transfer and staff training. Training can take place in different formats: from traditional classroom classes, through workplace training, to advanced simulators.

Navantia also offers operational support to maximize the participation of local suppliers by identifying and qualifying Polish industry. The company also supports the transfer of supply chain management to Polish shipyards, which is crucial for building long-term cooperation.

Cooperation with international partners

During the forum, companies known on the Polish market, such as the Babcock International Group and Lockheed Martin, also presented their offers. Babcock provides torpedo launcher technology for S-80 submarines, while Lockheed Martin specializes in sonar systems that are crucial to the operational efficiency of these units.

Industrial Day – Platform for dialogue

Industry Day included a number of round table business meetings, which allowed Polish entrepreneurs to better understand the possibilities of cooperation with Orka and other projects. During the B2B meetings conducted that day, more than fifty local companies were identified with the potential for future cooperation in the supply of equipment, maintenance and start-up of systems.

Long-term vision

Navantia declares, that initiatives such as Industrial Day will take place periodically to regularly assess progress and expand the scope of cooperation. The company commits to long-term alliances with Polish companies to support the development of the Polish shipbuilding industry and contribute to the economic growth of the country.

According to Alfonso Valea, Europe's sales director: "Partnership is necessary to define and build the future of the local shipbuilding industry, support the Polish Navy and become a sustainable driver of the country's economic growth. Navantia is involved in long-term alliances with local companies to support the development of Polish industry."

Industry Day confirmed that Poland has a strong structure in the shipbuilding industry. Cooperation with Navantia and other international partners provides a great opportunity for further technological and economic development. Navantia, as a technologically advanced company, is ready to continue to build an open line of cooperation within the upcoming programmes, which will benefit both Polish defence and civil industry.
