NaviGate 2018: Rolls-Royce and Finferries sign a cooperation agreement

On May 17, 2018, during the NaviGate Maritime Fair in Finland, representatives of British Rolls-Royce and Finnish state shipowner Finferries signed a cooperation agreement.
Companies will work together on innovative solutions to increase the safety and efficiency of maritime operations. The agreement primarily concerns the development of technologies to be used in crew decision support systems. According to the company communication, cooperation will also apply to autonomous ferry shipping.
The signed agreement also concerns Rolls-Royce's participation in the new SVAN research project (Safer Vessel with Independent Navigation). In its framework, the British concern and Finferries will work on implementing the result of the Advented Independent Waterborne Applications (AAWA) research project, which was completed in late 2017. This is a project funded by the Finnish economic accelerator Business Finland. It was attended by a number of maritime industry actors. Its aim was to determine the profitability of the next generation of ship-based solutions and to explore their technical capabilities. Both Rolls-Royce and Finferrie participated in the project.
The signing of an agreement between companies means that this cooperation will continue.
– This cooperation can bring safe and ecological shipping to a higher level. Rolls-Royce will develop solutions to increase the safety and efficiency of maritime operations in the ferry sector. They will be installed on the test platform provided by Finferries," said Karno Tenouvo, Vice President of Rolls-Royce Ship Intelligence.
