NAVIRIS begins a study on the modernization of Orizzonte/Horizon destroyers

NAVIRIS, a leader in shipbuilding innovation, announced the development of a feasibility study on the modernisation of Orizzonte/Horizon destroyers. The contract, signed with OCCAR, includes Mid-Life Upgrade four units serving in French and Italian fleets.

As part of this project, Naviris will work closely with leading industrial partners such as Leonardo, Thales, Eurosam, MBDA and Sigen. The feasibility study will focus on increasing anti-aircraft destroyer capabilities to respond effectively to new hazard scenarios identified by customers.

Orizonte/Horizon destroyers, built between 2000 and 2010, under the Joint Fincantieri and Naval Group, are highly specialised anti-aircraft defence units. Their main capabilities include airspace control, command and coordination of air defense and anti-aircraft protection of ship groups and convoys. As part of the modernization project, Naviris plans to offer users new equipment and weapons configurations that will strengthen these capabilities.

Naviris, joint venture Fincantieri and Naval Group, officially started operations in January 2020. Thanks to this cooperation of two European leaders in the shipbuilding industry, which complement each other in terms of products and capabilities, the company strives to achieve a competitive advantage in the water market. The feasibility study on modernisation Orizzonte/Horizon destroyers represent another step in the implementation of this mission. Naviris remains in constant readiness to provide innovative solutions for the Navy and strengthen the defence of our fleets.
