Maya Destroyer (DDG-179) incorporated into the Japanese fleet

On 19 March, at the Isogo shipyard in Yokohama (owned by Japan Marine United), the first of the two 27DDG destroyers was commissioned.

The new destroyer is a representative of the second type series Atago, which in turn is a developmental version of destroyers of the type Kongō, developed on the basis of American type destroyers Arleigh Burke. So this is the third generation of Japanese "clones" of the most popular destroyer of the US Navy in the last 30 years. The new ship has joined ranks.
1. Escort Squadron 1. Escort Fleet of Yokosuka. The cost of its construction was approximately $1.61 billion. More details can be found in our earlier publication: https://portalstoczowy.pl/news/Japanese-marine-united-jmu-corporation-produced-haguro-second-destructor-type-maya-27ddg/.

The ship is named after the Maya summit (摩耶山, Maya-san) at a height of 698.6 m, located in Kobe in Hyōgo Prefecture. He also inherited his name after the heavy cruiser of World War II, the third type unit Takao, sunk by American submarine USS Dace (SS-247) during the Battle of Leyte Bay.
