USV U.S. Marine Drone Project

In response to increasing tensions in the Pacific region, the US Navy initiates a breakthrough project to deploy deadly sea drones (USV). The aim is to strengthen the ability to deter and defend against possible Chinese aggression in Taiwan, opening a new chapter in a military strategy in international waters.
Polish Navy The USA, with a view to increasing security in the Western Pacific region, in particular in the context of the Taiwan Strait, has decided on the mass production of unmanned water vehicles (USV). These modern units, capable of autonomous action, are intended to become a key component in halting possible war activities, including the Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
As part of the Replicator initiative, the Defense Innovation Unit launched a tender, encouraging companies to bid for the production of small but highly effective USVs. These autonomous units, known for their rapid capture of enemy ships, are part of the PRIME DIU strategy – Production-Ready, Inexpensive, Maritime Expeditionary, aimed at supplying the Navy with the necessary tools for attacking operations.

Naval analysts, such as Bryan Clark, emphasise the importance of these actions in the context of current geopolitical challenges, pointing to the potential use of drones in conflict scenarios in the Taiwan Strait. Polish Navy, experimenting with a concept of deadly drones, called "hellscape", seeks to disrupt any landing attempt on Taiwan, using advanced ammunition and tactics of autonomous attacks.
Operational requirements for these USVs include the ability to move autonomously in disputed waters, detect threats and initiate attacks at a speed of at least 35 knots. Additionally, drones are to interact in groups, adapting their actions to the dynamics of the chase, making them an effective tool in modern theatre of war activities.
The order also includes the development of specialized software enabling the swarm of drones to be autonomous, which increases their efficiency in target hunting. Although these are the first steps of the Replicator project, both armed services and industry already have experience in experimenting and implementing similar systems.
